Most disposal problems fall into a few categories. Jams are the most common — usually caused by bones, fruit pits, fibrous vegetables like celery, or silverware that slipped in. Sometimes I can clear a jam and get your existing unit running again. Leaks typically happen at the sink flange, the dishwasher connection, or the discharge pipe, and are usually repairable. But if your unit is older than 8-10 years and having frequent issues, or if the motor has burned out, replacement is usually the better investment.

For new installations, I'll help you choose the right size unit for your kitchen. A 1/3 HP disposal works fine for a single person or couple who doesn't cook much, but a busy family kitchen in a Gainesville or Braselton home usually needs a 3/4 HP or 1 HP unit to handle the load without jamming. I also make sure the electrical connection is safe and up to code — disposal wiring that was done by a previous homeowner or handyman is one of the more common issues I see.

If your disposal issue has turned into a drain clog — which happens when people try to force a jammed disposal and push debris further down the line — I can take care of both problems in the same visit.
